In the museography of the post-World War II period, the double intervention by Carlo Scarpa for the Correr Museum in Venice (in 1952-53 the rooms of Venetian History on the first floor; in 1959-60 the Picture Gallery on the second floor) stood out as an exemplary model of the elegant Italian line inspired by international Rationalism, where it is above all the clear consideration of the architectural-environmental context and especially the inherent randomness of each individual work that gives reason and value to the choices of architecture and applied design. The Correr Museum still bears witness to this high lesson; especially when the next re-staging interventions on the first floor and the restoration of the Picture Gallery on the second floor are completed, each with the clear objective of philological recovery of what is preserved; that is, some rooms and various individual elements on the first floor; almost the entire exhibition apparatus on the second floor. The exhibition will present an effective restitution of Scarpa's architecture and furnishings at the Correr through vintage photographs from the MUVE Photographic Archive. Along with this, some original specimens of Carlo Scarpa's refined design applied to the Correr will be exhibited: display cases and showcases, the famous "easel" for paintings, supports, joints, and fittings...; all demonstrating Scarpa's extraordinary ability to combine form and function, with his unmistakable stylistic signature, in creations of high craftsmanship; true "works" in which the structural characteristics and aesthetic qualities of the materials are maximized by a design of incomparable sensitivity and the special skills of the craftsman's hand.
