In 2021, Professor Carlo Beltrame's team (Ca' Foscari University - Department of Humanities Studies), through underwater archaeological excavations carried out in the Lio Piccolo area (Cavallino-Treporti), made the discovery of a brick and wooden plank tank containing oysters. This unique structure, interpreted as a space for keeping the bivalves alive before consumption, dates back to the 1st century AD and finds a single comparison in the Narbonne lagoon in France. Adjacent to the tank, excavations are underway on the foundations of what could be a wealthy villa, as indicated by the discovery of hundreds of high-quality fresco fragments and numerous mosaic tiles. In the summer of 2022, the discovery of this oyster farm received significant media coverage. It is therefore important to present to the Venetian public, and beyond, the initial results of this research project that provides further information on the inhabitants of the lagoon during the Roman imperial era through the exhibition of some artifacts, images, videos of underwater excavation operations and research activities, as well as a three-dimensional model of the lagoon archaeological site.
