The Imperial Furniture Collection (Hofmobiliendepot) is one of the most original museums in Vienna, dedicated to the history of Austrian imperial furniture. Located in the Neubau district, the museum houses one of the largest collections of historical furniture in the world, with over 165,000 pieces that trace the evolution of the living style of the Habsburg imperial family from the Baroque to the 20th century.
The exhibition includes furniture from official residences, such as the Hofburg Palace and Schönbrunn, as well as furnishings from summer and private residences. Among the most fascinating pieces are imperial beds, thrones, chairs, and furnishings that belonged to Franz Joseph and Empress Sissi, revealing the daily life and taste of the Habsburg court.
The museum also offers sections dedicated to modern and contemporary design, temporary exhibitions, and a curious area that tells how these furniture pieces were used in the famous films about Sissi. Thanks to its richness and variety, the Imperial Furniture Collection is a must-visit for those who love history, applied art, and design.
