The Kirche am Steinhof, also known as the Church of St. Leopold, is a Catholic church in Vienna, designed by the architect Otto Wagner and considered a masterpiece of Viennese Art Nouveau. Built between 1904 and 1907, it is located within the complex of the former Am Steinhof psychiatric hospital. Wagner designed the church taking into account the specific needs of the patients, with particular attention to lighting, acoustics, and furnishings. The church is a significant example of Viennese Art Nouveau, characterized by clean lines, geometric shapes, and stylized floral decorations. Wagner integrated functional elements for the hospital patients, such as a sloping floor towards the altar and benches without sharp edges.
