Luigi Sapelli, known as Caramba

Luigi Sapelli, also known under the pseudonym of Caramba, was an Italian set designer, costume designer and illustrator. He was the greatest theatrical costume designer of his generation; with him the costume was reinterpreted in a modern and innovative key, which changed its conception forever. Friend and collaborator of Mariano Fortuny, Caramba used new fabric formulas and strove to create lighting effects in order to enhance the stage appearance.
