Fabio Viale

1975, Cuneo

Fabio Viale lives and works in Turin, and is one of the most renowned Italian artists on the contemporary international scene. Known for his technical virtuosity in sculpting Carrara marble, he rose to fame in 2002 with the creation of Aghalla, a small fully functional boat carved from a single block of marble, launched into the sea in front of the Lunigiana quarries and taken on tour to various Italian cities and abroad. Since his early works, he has been engaged in exploring a relationship with classical art masterpieces, creating identical copies of famous statues such as the Venus de Milo, the Laocoön, or Canova's works, on which the artist imparts new values through the removal of parts, or more recently through the tattooing process, a technique he developed himself. Winner of prestigious awards such as the Henraux Prize and the Cairo Prize, and named by the city of Carrara as the artist who has most contributed to revitalizing marble. He has a dense exhibition activity in Italy and abroad, in galleries and museums. His works are displayed at major international fairs and are part of prestigious private collections.
