Filippo Lippi

23 June 1406, Firenze - 09 October 1469, Spoleto

Filippo Lippi was the main painter active in Florence, part of the generation that followed in the footsteps of Masaccio. After an initial period of close Masaccesque adherence, albeit enriched with ideas taken from real life, as in the contemporary works of Donatello and Luca della Robbia, Lippi gradually moved towards a broader spectrum of influences, which also included Flemish painting.
