Mario Schifano

20 September 1934, Homs - 26 January 1998, Roma

Mario Schifano was an Italian artist, painter and director. Together with Franco Angeli and Tano Festa he represented a fundamental point of Italian and European Pop art. Perfectly inserted in the international cultural scene of the sixties, he was considered a prolific artist, exuberant and a lover of worldliness. The drug habit that lasted all his life earned him the label of cursed artist. Passionate student of new painting techniques, he was among the first to use the computer to create works and was able to process images from the computer and report them on emulsified canvases (the computerized canvases). The author's prolificacy and the apparent simplicity of his works led to the spread of a large number of fakes, especially after his death.
