closed The culture of plastic: art, design, environment

The show

An exhibition to tell an omnipresent material in our life, now exalted, now condemned, now poor, now chic, now pop, now elite.

A miraculous material, plastic, which transforms itself from raw material into a perfect and useful object but which causes serious pollution problems if it is abandoned in the environment and especially in the sea. On display plastic works by important contemporary artists, design objects in plastic become icons of modernity and information on the material and its danger to the environment if not properly disposed of.

The intent is to promote, also through the languages of art and beauty, the knowledge of plastic and to promote an action to raise awareness on the issues of recycling, sustainability and environmental protection in a decade, 2021- 2030, proclaimed by the UN "decade of the sea".

The exhibition, conceived by Andrea Socrati and set up by architect Fabio Fornasari , is divided into three sectors, each of which tells of a link between plastic, art, design and the environment.

The first sector of the exhibition is dedicated to the works of important artists made using different types of plastic. Artists on show: Cracking Art, Renzo Nucara, Nicola Farina, Silvio Craia, Massimiliano Trubbiani, Bruno Ceccobelli, Alfredo Pirri, Ottmar Horl, Marco Lodola, Gino Marotta, Paolo Nicolai, Walter Paoletti . Among the artists there is also the sea , with objects that he has worked for a long time and that gives us back transformed with new meanings to discover and the video "Mare1" by Daniele Pignatelli (with Alessandro Feira-Chios, Francesco Vitaloni Sing Sing Studio Special , Oddo Bernardini).

The second sector is dedicated to Design. There are several objects on display, from miniatures of important and famous products that have become icons of modernity to objects of great elegance, to continue with a contemporary and pop design. Among the exhibiting companies: Fratelli Guzzini, Vesta Design, Prensilia, Piquadro, Kartell, Magis, Gufram, Artemide, Lego, Tokidoki, Collins Design, Fornarina, Mattell, Fila, Tupperware, Europhone, Mandarina Duck, Superstuff, Sagmeister.

The third sector is dedicated to the knowledge of plastics and the serious pollution it produces if it is abandoned in the environment. Political decision makers, companies, citizens, all are called to the commitment to safeguard our "common home". This section is enriched by a video made by some students of the Liceo Artistico Mannucci on the theme of water as a precious asset and by two further videos: one created by the Polytechnic University of Marche on the correct behavior on the disposal of plastic waste and the other by Garbage Group on the innovative cleaning system of port waters through the Pelikan boat .

The exhibition is tactile and experiential , with all the supports useful for use by an audience with visual, hearing and cognitive disabilities, thanks to the Media partner Rai Pubblica Utilità, which has made explanatory videos in LIS (Italian Sign Language) and staff of the Omero Museum who produced subtitles and audio descriptions of some videos, captions in Braille and the facilitated reading guide to the exhibition. There is also a table for the little ones with plastic games as well as two workstations with tables and chairs to carry out activities dedicated to people with autism and beyond. The exhibition is itinerant , designed to travel and be hosted in other locations.
