The Historical Museum of Bergamo is located in the Upper Town and is found in two locations: in the former convent of San Francesco and Rocca di Bergamo. La Rocca di Bergamo hosts an exhibition section devoted to the Risorgimento, dated between 1797 and 1870. The fortified complex of the Rocca is historically important: it was the seat of power and battles between 1331 and 1859. Only between 1927 and 1933 the fortress underwent a series of renovations to restore it to its original look medieval. Thanks to its rich history became the ideal venue to host and give witness to the struggles for independence and unification of Italy. The museum of the history of Bergamo also includes other sites: the Old Tower, Palazzo del Podesta, the Donizzettiano Museum and the Tower of the Fallen. Places that have become public symbols and today told the city of Bergamo.
