The Terror House Museum in Budapest (Terror Háza Múzeum) is one of the most evocative and poignant museums in the Hungarian capital. Located at 60 Andrássy Avenue, the building was the headquarters of the fascist secret police and later the communist one, becoming a symbol of the dictatorships that marked the country's history in the 20th century.
The museum tells, through an exciting and multimedia journey, the events related to Nazism, Soviet occupation, and political repression. The permanent exhibitions include documents, photographs, original objects, and testimonies that reconstruct daily life during the totalitarian regimes.
One of the most impressive spaces is the basement, where political prisoners were held. The modern setting, with sound and visual effects, makes the visit an intense and engaging experience, designed to make visitors reflect on the value of freedom and historical memory.
The Terror House also organizes temporary exhibitions, events, and educational programs for students and groups, with the aim of transmitting knowledge of the tragic events of the last century to the new generations.
