The Oratorio di Santa Maria dei Bianchi houses the beautiful fresco Adoration of the Magi by Perugino. In 1504, the Confraternity of the Disciplined or the Bianchi commissioned the most famous son of Città della Pieve to create a large fresco in their ancient Church of Santa Maria dei Bianchi, which was transformed into an oratory in the 18th century. The work is one of Perugino's masterpieces, showcasing the grace and elegance of forms that made him one of the Masters of the Renaissance. The fresco is characterized by the presence of an idyllic landscape, occupying almost half of the pictorial space, inspired by the views that the artist could admire from his hometown: the panoramas of Lake Trasimeno. In this landscape, knights and noblemen gather around the hut/temple where the Holy Family and the Magi are located. Perugino took 29 days to complete the fresco, but first he had to negotiate for his fee. He initially wanted 200 florins, but the Confraternity was not willing to pay that much. The matter was resolved with Perugino accepting 75 florins and a donkey to carry colors and brushes from Perugia to Castel della Pieve.
