The Antiquarium conserves the finds discovered in the territory and encapsulates the characteristic elements of human presence in the Umbria region. The materials are presented according to classic exhibition paths, considering the exhibition object as an entire territorial scope, investigated and shown in its various and multiple constitutive aspects. The exhibition path, although predominantly chronological and divided into the main cultural themes, indicates the ways in which man has influenced the environment in which he lived, his achievements, his economy, his religiosity, his relationships with other men and with political power.The visit to the Antiquarium begins with the paleontological section. The fossil remains of Mesozoic ammonites from Migiana (Lower Jurassic) and those of Quaternary mammals from Ellera (Lower Pleistocene), accompanied by an updated educational apparatus, illustrate two distant and important stages in the history of the Corciano territory.In the absence of evidence related to the Corciano territory, the Augusto Mori Collection, mainly consisting of lithic artifacts collected in various locations in the region, offers an interesting overview of prehistoric Umbria. The most significant materials were collected near Sant'Egidio (Assisi) and belong to two main groups, one dating back to the Upper Paleolithic, the other to the Copper Age. During the Bronze Age, the territory of Corciano played a role as a link between Perugia and Lake Trasimeno, where significant evidence of this period has been found. In the early Iron Age, between Perugia and Lake Trasimeno, the so-called Villanovan Culture emerged, characterized by a heritage of geometric decorations engraved on the surfaces of the vessels, arranged to emphasize their various parts.The section on classical archaeology opens with the presentation of the archaic age. In April 1812, near Castel San Mariano, a large quantity of archaic bronzes belonging to the burial or perhaps to the rich deposit of powerful figures was fortuitously discovered. The materials were part of an impressive arsenal for food preparation, banquets, as well as personal tools and sheets for covering three chariots, two currus, and a carpentum, symbols of wealth and power, which were immediately sold by the clandestine excavators to the major collectors of the time and subsequently acquired by the Archaeological Museum of Perugia and other important European museums. The Antiquarium presents life-size reconstructions of one of the two currus and the carpentum. The section dedicated to San Mariano is followed by the sarcophagus of Volpaie, which belongs to a type of monument made with a variety of limestone, known as fetid stone, widespread in the territories of Chianciano, Chiusi, Cetona, and Sarteano. Sarcophagi made of this material are found in various locations in inner Etruria; their production is traced back to the Chiusi area starting from the end of the 6th century BC, with a peak in the 5th century BC and a limited revival between the end of the 4th and the middle of the 3rd century BC. This is followed by the section dedicated to sanctuaries, focused on the exhibition of votive bronzes and decorative terracotta elements. Developed along the main communication routes and at the peaks of the reliefs, the sanctuaries were simple enclosures or altars dedicated to the deities, to whom vows were offered for the protection of the body's health, fertility, and well-being of livestock. The Hellenistic age is represented by the materials recovered in the necropolises of Strozzacapponi and Fosso Rigo. Particularly interesting are the reconstructions of three burials, with the accompanying materials placed in their original discovery position inside the chamber, in addition to the entire set of the Tomb of the Funerary Beds, consisting of eight travertine urns still characterized by the rich polychromies of the time, ceramic materials, and bronze elements of two funerary beds for which reconstructive hypotheses are presented. This is followed by the section dedicated to the Roman presence in the territory, which was intense and favored by an articulated system of roads with the Via Amerina as the reference axis. The Etruscan character of customs, rituals, and monuments remained unchanged until the eve of the definitive prevalence of Rome, following the events that deeply marked the territory in the 1st century BC. With Romanization, the Corciano countryside was progressively occupied with the construction of villae, typical settlement structures with a part reserved for residential purposes and another destined for productive activities. This phase is presented with small domestic objects, parts of settlements, and two burials with their respective grave goods.
