THE MOONSTONE
The Luni Marble and the Roman Empire
On Saturday, May 18, at the Royal Palace of Genoa - Teatro del Falcone, the exhibition "The Moonstone. The Luni Marble and the Roman Empire" curated by Matteo Cadario, Marcella Mancusi, and Antonella Traverso opened to the public.
An exhibition that explores the intricate stories of trade, culture, and art that linked Luni and Liguria to the capital of the Empire, allowing an exciting journey through the events of the Luni marble and its impact on the Roman Empire.
The exhibition is organized by the National Museums of Genoa - Liguria Regional Museums Directorate, the National Museum and Archaeological Park of Luni, in collaboration with the National Roman Museum.
The Moonstone tells the story of a material - marble - that played an essential role within the Roman Empire, starting from the Augustan Age and for many centuries: the quarrying techniques, the navigation routes in the Mediterranean, and the outcomes of the spread of Luni marble in architecture and statuary.
Visiting the exhibition is included in the ticket for the National Museums of Genoa (full price € 12.00; young people aged 18-25 € 2.00; free for minors and entitled persons)
