From 4 October to 4 October 2025
Casa del Mutilato di Genova enthusiastically announces its participation in the Day of the Contemporary 2025, the event promoted by AMACI - Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums — with the support of the General Directorate of Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture and in collaboration with the General Directorate for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
This is the second participation by the Museum, which — since the conclusion of restoration and reinstallation operations — is constantly engaged in exhibitions, projects, and meetings aimed at enhancing its cultural heritage. A Collection, preserved, ranging from the 19th to the 20th century, in a path divided between Internal Rooms and Monumental Area. The latter environment, identified as ideal for this new collaboration. In continuity with the previous edition of the Day of the Contemporary, where Eugenio Fuselli and Guido Galletti were put into dialogue, this year the encounter with public art will start from a work (always accessible) of the structure and then move to a second area of the Foce district. At the center of this reflection are two sculptors who indissolubly linked their artistic work to the city of Genoa: Eugenio Baroni and Antonio Maria Morera.
"VIVA. For a present public art - II. Antonio Maria Morera, Eugenio Fuselli", supported by Guido Vinacci (President - Casa del Mutilato di Genova), curated by Matteo Lenuzza (Cultural Director - Casa del Mutilato di Genova) and Matteo Decia (IULM University), still questions the relationship between twentieth-century public art and its dimension in the present. Through an unprecedented dialogue between the works "The Mutilated" (Casa del Mutilato - Monumental Area) and "The Navigator" (Viale Brigate Partigiane), the public will be stimulated to develop a personal reflection on the impulse of two contributions made specifically for the 21st Day of the Contemporary — digitally accessible on casadelmutilato.medium.com. While Baroni denounces the physical and social fragilities overshadowed by the myth of post-World War I reductionism, Morera here supports an art that exploits physicality to launch a muscular narrative of the historical period of which it is a product.
Supporting public art, enhancing it, is among the missions of the A.N.M.I.G. Foundation - Liguria aimed at accessibility to culture. The selected monuments, also for this edition, can indeed be visited for free - as are all the activities organized by the organization.
