closed XLII exhibition of the Nativity scene

The show

The artists of the Nativity scene are the protagonists of the exhibition organized in the rooms of the Episcopio Castle of Grottaglie. An initiative that for over forty years has celebrated the eclectic creativity of ceramic artists from all over Italy. Over the years, the exhibition has attracted numerous master potters of national and international standing, whose award-winning works are now preserved in the crib section of the Grottaglie Ceramics Museum. There are 26 works that offer an overview of the artistic representation of the Nativity declined in the various regional realities (Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Puglia, Sardinia, Tuscany, Veneto). On the evening of the inauguration, Saturday 18 December, in the presence of the institutions, the Single Prize was awarded to Francesco Maggio with the work "Timeless preciousness". This is the motivation of the Jury: "The work has a central setting with elements of traditional iconography as well as characterized by oriental influences. Particularly striking is the plastic model representing the Baby Jesus depicted through the Comet Star which refers to the theme of light and becomes the guide and fulcrum of the entire representation. The technical rendering is embellished by the third fire, the luster in pure gold and the richness of the decoration ". Recommendations: The Jury also intended to report the work "In the sky resounded the song of praise" by Giuseppe Filomeno for "the communicative impact, for the originality with which the sacral element of the Family, as a primary community, is represented" and the work "Nativity" by Annibale Trani for "the message rendered through a formal synthesis, in its essentiality it manages to respect the tradition and sacredness of the representation with a strongly contemporary imprint". also a special section dedicated to the master ceramist Paolo Santoro, who passed away in 2020.
