From 6 December to 8 March 2026
Palazzo delle Paure hosts from December 6th to March 8th, 2026 the seventh edition of Capolavoro per Lecco, an event promoted by the Pastoral Community and the Cultural Association Madonna del Rosario, with the collaboration of the Municipality of Lecco.
This year's choice focuses on the workshop of the Bellini – father Jacopo and sons Giovanni and Gentile Bellini – Venetian artists who marked the beginning of the Renaissance in Venice with their work.
“Family Lexicon. The workshop of the Bellini and the dawn of the Renaissance in Venice” is indeed the title of this edition, curated by Giacomo Alberto Calogero from the University of Bologna, which showcases three masterpieces housed in three different galleries:
· Madonna and Child by Jacopo Bellini, a painting executed in tempera on panel transferred to canvas dating back to around 1450 and preserved in the Tadini Academy Gallery in Lovere
· Madonna and Child by Giovanni Bellini, a painting executed in tempera on panel, dating from the artist's earliest production between 1450 and 1460 and preserved in the Malaspina Art Gallery in Pavia
· The Birth of the Virgin from Jacopo Bellini's workshop with the direct involvement of his sons Giovanni and Gentile, a tempera painting on canvas, dating back to 1465 and preserved at the Sabauda Gallery of the Royal Museums in Turin.
These are three works of great beauty, created in a relatively short period of time, which allow us to explore the influence that the teachings of father Jacopo had on his two sons Giovanni and Gentile, as well as the inevitable stimuli that the two young heirs provided to their parent's art.
The exhibition therefore offers an in-depth look at family relationships within a "workshop" during the flourishing of the Renaissance period in Venice. It is no coincidence that the exhibition also presents some testimonies of contemporary artisan family businesses, collected by Susanna De Maron, Giorgio Melesi, and Laura Polo D’Ambrosio.
This year too “Capolavoro per Lecco” will benefit from the valuable contribution of volunteers and about sixty high school students from Lecco involved through a PCTO project.
The exhibition setup, which will continue untilMarch 8th, 2026, is the result of the creative interpretation of Giorgio Melesi, who has designed a very evocative layout, playing with contrasts of lights and colors, and has also planned a large space dedicated to the workshop for schools and children.
