“Welcome to my house! is a greeting formula that aims to synthesize the welcoming phrase found in Ortega's house in Bosco and encapsulates the concept of home for Ortega,” explains Simona Spinella. The exhibition explores the friendship between José Ortega and Esteban Villalta, son of Mariano Villalta Lapayès, through the integration of objects that imitate and coexist harmoniously with José Ortega's "house," his "industrious abode" in the Sassi di Matera. The project materialized thanks to the collaboration of Synchronos, a cultural enterprise that manages Casa Ortega, with Patricia Pascual, Esteban's wife, and the students from the Design Institute of Matera who chose Villalta's work as their final project.

The house-laboratory purchased by José Ortega in 1974 will host the objects and paintings created by Esteban Villalta: a television, a telephone, a pitcher, a flamenco boot, a fan, a shirt, a bed, undergo a transformation and from consumer objects become artistic objects. They then integrate with the furnishing accessories designed by the Matera artisans who decorated Casa Ortega, creating a personal ensemble with all these elements. A thought that refers to pop art, and the relationship with objects - the myths and symbols of popular culture - and the use of communication media such as advertising and comics.

Esteban's paintings, on the other hand, transport us into full American Pop Art, in the tradition of Warhol and Lichtenstein, but imbued with their own socio-cultural vision, with irreverent, disruptive tones that manifest in urban graffiti, a phenomenon anticipating Street Art.

A Pop Art with expressionist curvatures, in which color is an essential component, just like for Ortega. It is this chromatic power that makes Villalta's characters oscillate between the hyperrealism of everyday life and the fantastical dimension. His paintings are thentrise of two cultures: the Roman and the Madrid culture, between the "Roman Dolce Vita" and the "Movida Madrileña".
