The National Museum of Matera presents two temporary exhibitions in the spaces of Palazzo Lanfranchi , curated by Alessandro Demma and Annamaria Mauro : Tensioni. Gisella Chaudry - Paolo Grassino and Between Faces . The human being in the graphic works of Luigi Guerricchio . The two projects, which inaugurate on 19 July 2023 at 6.00 pm, arise from the desire for a museum strategy based on the construction of research dedicated to the languages of contemporary art to define a broader perspective of the National Museum of Matera, a dynamic space in capable of telling numerous artistic and cultural stories from archeology to the present day.

The artists Gisella Chaudry and Paolo Grassino will take part in the inauguration of the exhibition, together with the curators, the art historian Alessandro Demma and the Director of the National Museum of Matera, Annamaria Mauro.

The exhibition between faces. The human being in the graphic works of Luigi Guerricchio, exhibited in the Sala delle Arcate , wants to reconstruct a story about the human being, his identity, his presence, through work dedicated to the languages of graphics - etchings, woodcuts, lithographs, engravings, etc. - by Luigi Guerricchio. An anthropological and sociological journey that immerses the viewer in the faces of the past, those of the twentieth century, which the artist from Matera crossed and investigated with a unique and significant vision.

Around sixty works selected from those in the collection of the National Museum of Matera will be displayed in the exhibition, the result of a donation from the Guerricchio family. Overwhelmed by the faces and bodies of Luigi Guerricchio, the spectator can enter into the heart of an experience which, still today, is one of the most important philosophical, anthropological, social and cultural themes of human existence, the relationship between the self and the other to be self , between the face and the foreign body and our perception of recognition in the other, between the revelation of the other 's image and our identification with it.
