From January 23 to March 15, 2026 Beyond the limits. SportItaly. A collective portrait of a changing country: a project that, through the sports participation of Italians, tells the great social, cultural, and economic changes of the twentieth century and the ongoing transformations in the present.

The exhibition is conceived and produced by M9 - Museum of the 20th Century on the impulse of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, with the Italian Society of Sports History, Touring Club Italiano, Home Movies - National Archive of Family Films, Istituto Luce, and ANSA Archive.

On the occasion of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and within the framework of the Cultural Olympiad, M9 brings this story to Mestre, after a journey that has already touched representative offices and Italian Cultural Institutes.

The path intertwines memory and future through six thematic nuclei, independent and connected: Twentieth Century, where the spread of sports accompanies the transition from rural Italy to post-industrial Italy, between well-being, cities, and leisure time; Women!, which follows the entry of women into the public space and sports, between obstacles, stereotypes, and new challenges of inclusion; Travel, which tells about mobility, Italian communities abroad, and sports as a field of relationships; In Corpore Sano, which focuses on the public role of sports, between education, health, and welfare; Superhumans, where technology and medicine redesign protection, performance, and the very idea of limits; Love, an emotional journey into fandom and collective rituals, from the stands to "sports bars," from myths to popular habits.
