From 8 March to 27 March 2022
Casa degli Artisti di Milano presents the exhibition " Garden in four acts _2001 / 2021 " from Tuesday 8 to Sunday 27 March 2022, which the artist Michele Guido has designed specifically for the spaces of the House. For Guido it is a real homecoming, to the origins, after twenty years, and the whole project is an invitation to enter his head, into his garden-laboratory where what was a seed has become a tree and fruit.
More than an anthology, it is a destined exhibition, full of amazement at the circularity of life and artistic research. It was already all there, in those seeds, when in 2001 Guido worked for 5 years in Hidetoshi Nagasawa's studio, and it is all here at the House that is gathered again, to prepare new growth cycles.
What Guido stages, in this garden which is a play in four acts, but more generally in all his work, is a filigree look, which sees different levels overlapping and sinking into each other, to be for each other, in a circular dimension of references, a kind of Moebius strip without beginning or end.
ACT I
As soon as he enters, the spectator / visitor is greeted by some display cases containing leaves, seeds, sectioned and modified fruits, scans of vegetables that are part of the artist's archive. Around the display cases - positioned on wooden boards - photos of leaves with the plant tissue modified by some fungi through the process of phototropism.
ACT II
A Kentia with leaves extended by silk threads introduces the second act. The plant behaves like a kind of pantograph: it takes the points it sees on the drawn table and projects them on the floor, creating a garden formed by the sections of the stem of a tropical plant called Victoria Regia.
ACT III
Inside the third space there are three sculptural elements: the first takes up the architecture of San Pietro in Montorio by Bramante found in Raphael's 'The Marriage of the Virgin'. It is seen as a lotus leaf contained in the architecture, through its ribs, draws a garden on the dome which has the same design as the one that Kentia created in the previous space.
ACT IV
The last space is dedicated to an installation presented in 2001 in an exhibition curated by Jole de Sanna within the spaces of the Milan fair. It is the first work created by Guido inside the Casa degli Artisti.
