From 26 September to 8 November 2025
The ICA Milano Foundation, directed by Alberto Salvadori, presents to the public three new exhibition projects dedicated to artists Oliver Osborne, Lewis Hammond, and Isabella Costabile. Through personal research and sensitivity, each artist addresses their own relationship with art, personal dimension, and historical and social context. Through painting and sculpture, the works of Osborne, Hammond, and Costabile animate the spaces of the foundation, addressing themes such as the malleability of painting over time, the concept of faith in society, and the role of objects as devices of memory.
Moving between figuration and abstraction, Oliver Osborne (Scotland, 1985) presents an exhibition that traces the last ten years of his artistic practice. Inspired by the study of art history, the artist explores the conceptual possibilities of painting over time, ranging from figures from the history of portraiture to components of his own family. In The Sleeping Guard, the exhibited works reference a variety of sources - from the fresco of San Pietro liberated from prison by Filippino Lippi (circa 1481) in the Brancacci Chapel in Florence to the photographic portrait of Michel Majerus (1996) by Albrecht Fuchs - including his own children, subjects and protagonists of his painting practice. Crossing history and the personal sphere, Osborne questions how painting can exist in the context of the 21st century, at a time when the digital world has rewritten the conditions of time and physical space that determine artistic practice. The artist's monograph Recent Painting will be published by Distanz in October 2025 and officially presented in November at the spaces of the ICA Milano Foundation.
