On the occasion of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Sala delle Colonne of Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan hosts Silvia De Bastiani • Water and Peaks. An Olympic Journey Through the Alps, an exhibition conceived specifically for the themes and territories of the Winter Olympics. Painting becomes an immersive, emotional, and investigative tool of the Alpine landscape. The exhibition, curated by Vera Agosti, is produced by the Municipality of Milan and the Federica Galli ETS Foundation. 30 watercolors are exhibited, some of them in large format (up to 2.3 x 4.5 meters), dedicated to the locations of the Winter Olympics. The exhibition also includes study albums, educational materials, and photographs of the artist at work. The setup, designed by architect Michele Piva, is essential and elegant, enhancing the artist's virtuoso painting. A video installation guides the audience through De Bastiani's gaze and creative process. Silvia De Bastiani (Feltre, 1981) lives and works in the Primiero Valley, among the Trentino Dolomites. Among the most refined interpreters of contemporary Alpine landscapes, she creates monumental watercolors en plein air, often in extreme conditions. Her works offer an immersive and multisensory experience, where light, atmosphere, and silence are captured on paper. The mountain becomes an identity language and living material, observed with almost scientific rigor and rendered with poetry, precision, and profound contemplative ability.
