The Sammlung Moderne Kunst is one of the four museums of the "Pinakothek der Moderne", one of the most important museums of modern and contemporary art in Germany, which includes the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Museum of Design, the Cabinet of drawings and graphics and the Museum of architecture. The collection of the Pinakothek der Moderne Kunst includes art from the twentieth century, in direct chronological continuation with the collection of the Neue Pinakothek. It preserves over 20,000 works of art divided into 35 different rooms. The works on display represent the entire artistic development of the twentieth century, showing the artistic development within a historical period and a profoundly changing context.
