The Modern Art Gallery is located in the historic center of Palermo, in the Kalsa district. The Gallery is located in a museum complex of two buildings: the former Franciscan convent of the church of Sant'Anna la Misericordia and the nearby Palazzo Bonet, in Catalan Gothic style. The Civic Gallery was founded in 2006 in its current location with the name of GAM Palermo. The collection is made up of private donations and acquisitions from the Municipality of Palermo. The collection includes paintings and sculptures of modern art between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The exhibition itinerary is divided into 14 thematic sections and collects 214. Among the greatest masterpieces: the large monumental canvases by Giuseppe Sciuti, the landscapes of Francesco Lojacono, the naturalism of Antonio Leto, the Art nouveau references of Ettore De Maria Bergler , the sparkling and luminous taste of Giovanni Boldini and the dense season of the twentieth century, testified by authors such as Massimo Campigli, Felice Casorati, Mario Sironi, Renato Guttuso, Franz von Stuck, who give us back the atmosphere and suggestions of a modern European capital. The two sculptures by Giorgio De Chirico “Ettore and Andromaca” and “Oreste and Pilade” donated by the Bilotti collection in 2007. The Gallery of Modern Art hosts temporary exhibitions, seminars and conferences related to the exhibition themes are certainly of great value.
