Museum of majolica Stanze al genio

Rooms at the Genius

The Majolica Museum - Stanze al Genio is located in the center of Palermo and is housed in a part of the main floor of Palazzo Torre Pirajno. The name of the museum is given by the fountain of the Genius near the seventeenth-century palace. The Museum is spread over nine rooms on the noble floor where you can admire, among other things, the period flooring, the frescoes inside a fully furnished and inhabited museum house. The collection consists of Sicilian majolica tiles and bells that were used as floors and walls according to the taste of noble society, the rich bourgeoisie and religious communities between the fifteenth and twentieth centuries. The exhibition halls host about 5,000 specimens and it is considered one of the largest collections in Europe. The set-up is conceived on the basis of geographical origin and period, with the increase of new pieces from year to year, thanks to the numerous donations. The "House Museum" also houses minor collections of antique toys, terracotta tiles, vintage objects, tin boxes and items relating to vintage stationery.
