The Museum of Maiolica - Stanze al Genio is located in the center of Palermo and is housed in a part of the noble floor of Palazzo Torre Pirajno. The name of the museum comes from the Genio fountain near the Seventeenth-century Palace. The Museum is spread over nine rooms inside the noble floor where you can admire, among other things, the ancient floorings, the frescoes inside a completely furnished and inhabited museum house. The collection consists of Sicilian and Campanian maiolica tiles that were used as floors and coverings according to the taste of the noble society, the wealthy bourgeoisie, and religious communities between the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries. The exhibition rooms house about 5000 specimens and are considered one of the largest collections in Europe. The layout is designed based on geographical origin and era, with the addition of new pieces year after year, thanks to numerous donations. The House Museum also hosts minor collections of antique toys, terracotta tiles, vintage objects, tin boxes, and items related to vintage stationery.
