The year 2026 will confirm the design vision of Fondazione Caript and Fondazione Pistoia Musei, also focused on contemporary art: the major exhibition of the new year will feature Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007), a painter, graphic designer, photographer, key figure in Italian design and architecture of the twentieth century, who crossed the entire century with a consistently critical, seemingly disenchanted gaze, yet engaged and sensitive to the ongoing changes in society. The exhibition titled I am an architect. Ettore Sottsass, at Palazzo Buontalenti from March 6 to July 26, 2026, is curated by Enrico Morteo, organized by Fondazione Pistoia Musei and Electa, and involves the collaboration of archives and research centers such as CSAC Parma, Archivio Museo Bitossi, and Centro Studi Poltronova. The exhibition, built around the rich collection that the architect entrusted to the CSAC in Parma, critically reinterprets three decades of activity, from the immediate post-war period to the early 1970s. Special attention will be given to the connection with Tuscany and the artisanal and industrial realities that have developed and established themselves there, from ceramics made with Aldo Londi in Montelupo Fiorentino to experiences with Sergio Cammilli and Poltronova in Agliana. Through drawings, photographs, ceramics, objects, and archival documents - many of which are exhibited for the first time - "I am an architect" reflects the evolution of a thought marked by disillusionment towards the society of progress, seeking in form, color, and light the possibility of a new humanism of design.
