On the occasion of the centenary of his birth, from 10 November 2022 to 26 February 2023 Pistoia Musei presents MAURO BOLOGNINI to the public | A NOUVEAU REGARD. Cinema, theater and the arts, an exhibition curated by Andrea Baldinotti, Vincenzo Farinella, Monica Preti and Luca Scarlini which will be organized in the offices of Palazzo Buontalenti and the Antico Palazzo dei Vescovi, in the historic heart of the city of Pistoia.

About 200 posters, sketches, costumes, paintings, photographs and props for an exhibition that has the dual purpose of reconsidering Bolognini's work in an overall way and of expanding the research on his work and figurative expression to the European dimension. , the result of a sensitivity refined in youth in the shadow of French cinema. Hence also the title of the exhibition, which ideally emphasizes the contribution that the culture of the other side of the Alps has offered to the work of the Pistoian director.

In the seat of the Antico Palazzo dei Vescovi, instead, his lyrical and theatrical productions are recalled: eight rooms set up in a 'scenographic' way with sketches, figures, costumes that recall the major theatrical productions of Bolognini. At the opening, a spectacular video installation created by Giovanni De Stefano presents itself as a kaleidoscope of images that chronologically traces the set-ups and significant moments of Bolognini's play: a sort of magic lantern projected on two screens placed at right angles to each other where the images flow accompanying the flow of visitors.
