The brightness of silk and the complexity of the processing make velvet one of the most precious fabrics over the centuries, characteristic of the most exclusive garments already in the Renaissance period: with the exhibition Velvet mi Amor, from March 8 to June 8, 2025, the Museo del Tessuto in Prato celebrates this unique textile material continuing the celebrations for the fiftieth anniversary of its opening, a few months after the inauguration of the exhibition Tesori di Seta. Velvet mi Amor is an exhibition project dedicated to contemporary experiments on velvet with a path in which 24 characters come to life born from the creative imagination and research of the designers Stefano Chiassai and Corinna Chiassai, specialized in creative consultancy for men's and women's fashion brands at national and international level.

The 24 characters designed for the exhibition by the two designers, completely dressed in velvet, are beings with alien forms and futuristic looks, exploring the potential of the material in contemporary research, interpreting it with new forms, manipulations, and innovative combinations. The installation, presented at some trade fairs but for the first time in a museum context, shows the public manual work and technical experiments that go beyond stylistic exercise, celebrating the creativity of contemporary textile production.

The exhibition enhances contemporary processing and in particular the versatility of the fabric, presented in an experimental key thanks to exploratory manipulations, innovative combinations, special treatments: laser, inlays of velvet with other materials, optical illusion prints, manual weaves, pleats, changes in the direction of velvet ribs, unusual color combinations, and new textures that animate the installation.
