To celebrate its fiftieth anniversary and the ongoing Jubilee 2025, from June 19 to September 21, 2025, the Prato Textile Museum returns to exhibit one of the works in its collections: the authentic replica of the mantle that Pope John Paul II wore on the occasion of the opening of the Holy Door at the Great Jubilee of 2000.
The project of the papal mantle and liturgical vestments worn by the clergy was initiated in 1999. The production of the fabric involved the textile companies of Prato, represented at that time by the Prato Industrial Union, now Confindustria Toscana Nord. The design and tailoring of the vestments were entrusted to the sacred art atelier X Regio in Treviso.
Over 16,000 meters of fabric were used to make 4,000 liturgical vestments for cardinals, bishops, and priests, some of which were also worn during the celebrations of the ongoing Jubilee's Holy Door opening.
