From 22 May to 27 September 2020
Curated by Maristella Casciato, Fulvio Irace with Margherita Guccione, Salvatore Licitra, Francesca Zanella
Forty years after the death of Gio Ponti, MAXXI dedicates a great retrospective to him that studies and recounts his multifaceted activity as an architect, designer, critic, founder and director of major magazines, analyzing all the multifaceted aspects of his intellectual production.
From the design of everyday objects to the invention of spatial solutions for the modern home to the realization of large urban projects, such as the Pirelli skyscraper or the cathedral of Taranto, Ponti's design is characterized precisely by the casual passage of scale. In the exhibition, articulated in a spectacular narrative, unpublished materials will be exhibited, preserved in the Ponti archive of the CSAC in Parma and by the heirs in Milan. At the center of the story there will be the figure of Ponti, an architect and designer of great international importance.
