From 30 October to 20 November 2016
Carlo De Meo's "Demeocracy" involves a series of imaginative characters who are placed within the space of VOLUME!, in a journey with fantastic and surreal features.
The construction of a floor plan made of tiles with the most varied patterns is the first situation encountered upon entering the Foundation; here we come across a mannequin that seems to be generated from the very matter of the environment in which it is found. In the second room, however, the optical game is resolved in the presence of a mirror facing a mannequin erected on a pile of commonly used objects worn out over the years. The latter looks directly at the reflection, in a curious observation of the scene taking place within it. Still in the same room, the head of a third man emerges from the floor and, immersed in the darkness, focuses his bright blue eyes on what is happening above the flooring. Finally, the last character struggles to make his way as he tries to emerge from a river of concrete after emerging from the dark tunnel of life.
De Meo's intervention is therefore summed up in a play of senses and perspectives, characterizing elements of his art.
