From 6 March to 5 July 2026
For the first time in Italy, over fifty masterpieces from the collections of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna tell the story of the birth, splendor, and complexity of one of Europe's greatest cultural enterprises. From Vienna to Rome. The wonders of the Habsburgs from the Kunsthistorisches Museum, scheduled at the Museo del Corso - Polo museale, Palazzo Cipolla, from March 6 to July 5, 2026, offers the public an unprecedented opportunity: to enter the heart of a collection that is both a museum and a dynastic self-portrait, emblematic of the splendor of an Empire and the cultural ambition of the Habsburgs.
Promoted and produced by the Fondazione Roma in collaboration with the Kunsthistorisches Museum (KHM), under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and the Embassy of Austria in Rome, the exhibition is organized with the logistical support of MondoMostre and made possible thanks to the contribution of the Sella group - through Banca Sella and Banca Patrimoni Sella & C. - official sponsors of the exhibition. Atac is the mobility partner and Radio Dimensione Suono is the radio partner of the initiative.
The exhibition project - curated by Cäcilia Bischoff, art historian of the KHM - brings together works collected or commissioned between the 16th and 19th centuries by central figures of the House of Habsburg - from Emperor Rudolf II to Archduchess Isabella Clara Eugenia, from Archduke Leopold Wilhelm to Empress Maria Theresa - portraying an image of a multiethnic, multicultural, and multireligious empire that used art as a tool for cultural representation, knowledge dissemination, and dialogue between civilizations.
