From February 19 to April 21, 2025, Pavilion 9b of the Rome Slaughterhouse hosts the exhibition Felice Levini. Designing Chaos, promoted by the Department of Culture of Rome Capital and by the Special Company Palaexpo, organized by the Special Company Palaexpo in collaboration with AA+ (Association for Art and More). The exhibition, curated by Massimo Belli, presents a significant portion of the orderly chaotic macrocosm that has always distinguished the work of Felice Levini (Rome, 1956), and his ironic interpretation of the world-system. Canvases, papers, installations, sculptures alternate seamlessly immortalizing contemporaneity with poignant elegance. Felice Levini was among the founders, in 1978, of the self-managed space of S. Agata de' Goti in Rome, where art, poetry, and music alternated as a bulwark of an expressive and cultural freedom in reaction to the violence of the Seventies. Over time, Levini introduced performative activity and human presence into his language. Despite this multi-mediality, his work continues to remain firmly anchored in the pictorial fact. Present in two Venice Biennials - in 1988 and 1993 - and in two Roman Quadrennials - in 1986 and 1996 -, he crossed the Millennium continuing to convey the profound sense of a society of fallen idols, which he ironically holds in the palm of his hand with irreverent classicism. Patiently distilling history through his graphic signs, Levini tells the presence of man in the world, from prehistory to this exact second, showing a complex cyclicity. The exhibition tells over thirty years of work by Felice Levini, an artist who is both eclectic and orthodox at the same time, but it is not only this. Designing Chaos manifests the utopian design will to bring order to the disorder par excellence: Chaos. Returning to the Greek etymology of this term, which expresses an opening - what is 'wide open' - one realizes that the title itself is a pun, a nonsense that tells the futile race of the contemporary world, constantly frustrated by the impossibility of telling itself in an orderly manner, by categories.
