In a dialogue between East and West, where the history of Western art intertwines with contemporary Chinese sensibility along the paths of Eurasia, from March 6th to April 8th, it arrives for the first time in Rome at the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, directed by Renata Cristina Mazzantini, an artist who is one of the most interesting figures in the contemporary Chinese painting scene, Gulistan, with the exhibition Time Garden, curated by Gabriele Simongini. In the same museum that houses masterpieces by Modigliani, Morandi, and Boccioni, particularly admired by Gulistan herself (whose name means Rose Garden), the voice of an artist who builds visual and spiritual bridges between two worlds is inserted, through a painting that is itself a meeting point, where the mineral pigments of the Dunhuang murals converse with the solidity of Western frescoes, Eastern calligraphic lines confront the structure and tension of European modernity. The Silk Road - more than a single route, a network of roads and relationships - has connected peoples, languages, religions, and images. Gulistan has studied and traveled through those territories, also participating in archaeological investigations along that route: from this comes Time Garden, a body of 45 works in which the sandstorms of Dunhuang ideally intertwine with the light of Rome, the contemplative void of Eastern aesthetics meets the Western concept of "unfinished." For Gulistan, feminine art should not be confined to the "struggle for identity and gender equality," as she herself says, but should strive to "manifest the truth of being through feminine sensitivity and its unique ways of perceiving the world."
