The Ettore Fico Museum hosts the exhibition 'The places and words of Enrico Berlinguer', conceived, organized and realized by the Enrico Berlinguer Association, for the preservation and enhancement of the cultural heritage of the Italian left, Duemila Foundation, a center for studies and research on culture, education, political and administrative innovation, Renato Zangheri research center. On the occasion of the centenary of his birth, and 40 years after his death, the aim of the exhibition is to contribute to reviving the political legacy of Enrico Berlinguer by retracing his biography through original audiovisual, sound, photographic materials and archival documents. The exhibition path is divided into five main thematic sections: Affections This section is dedicated to the representation of the most emotional, private and familiar dimension of Berlinguer's life, in addition to archival materials, the section is enriched by books, photographs and personal objects belonging to the leader's daily life made available by the family. The leader The second section retraces the history of Berlinguer as a party leader reconstructing his entire path of communist militancy from joining the youth section of the PCI in Sassari in 1943, to his election as Deputy Secretary of the PCI in 1969. In the Italian crisis Elected Secretary of the PCI in 1972, Enrico Berlinguer leads the party in the midst of the Italian crisis, it is this third section that reconstructs the context in which the communist leader operates, retracing the most crucial moments of his political biography until his premature death in 1984, against the backdrop of a profound crisis in society. The global dimension The fourth section presents the global dimension of Berlinguer's leadership. Here are presented the most salient aspects of his political action in relation to the international dimension: reflections on the events in Chile, the redefinition of the relationship with the Soviet Union, Eurocommunism, the liberation movements in Vietnam, the mending of relations with the People's Republic of China, to name a few. Current affairs and future The last section reflects on the political legacy of Berlinguer as a central figure of the republican pantheon, appreciated and recognized beyond the borders of his own world and capable of drawing attention to global issues and problems that have become increasingly pressing in recent decades.
