For the spring 2022 program, Fondazione 107 stages two strong personalities from the Piedmontese artistic community: Lucia Nazzaro and Sergio Ragalzi and presents two personal exhibitions which, despite being exhibited in separate spaces, interact in an overwhelming way starting from the choice of the "palette" of colors: white and black, the favorite colors of both artists but in particular by the common desire to develop a research with the epicenter of man and, lastly and probably by chance, the multiple of 12, both present creations of 12 works.
Sergio Ragalzi presents twelve large paintings, born in 1985 following a book on the atomic bomb dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki received as a gift. In the book there are no human images, faint signs of man remained on the walls and on the walls given by the soot prints. With the atomic bomb man disappeared and with him a generation ended including everything that surrounded him and was part of his world, in an instant everything was reset, even the objects merged.
It is the same thing that happens in the photographic process, in which the impression on the paper takes place through the light, the same light of the atomic bomb has neutralized the physicality of the man of which only the imprint remains. This is how the “Atomic Shadows” are born, large-sized paintings, each 4 x 3 meters, never exhibited until today due to their large dimensions. If we ask the artist why of such an important dimension, Ragalzi replies: because it was the size of the room in my studio where I painted and I couldn't make them larger.
But what is the shadow? Something impalpable, semi-visible that constantly follows us, surrounds us, which becomes presence and absence in the variations of light and in fact never leaves us. Something impregnable, which changes in size while retaining the characteristics of the reflected form, sometimes protecting us from the heat, which constantly follows us until it becomes one with us, with our physicality, an extension of our body, an elastic extension that envelops us, chases us, an indiscreet presence like a bodyguard or a guardian angel.
