One year after the passing of Marcello Gandini (1938–2024), the MAUTO - National Automobile Museum celebrates the revolutionary genius of the master of car design with the exhibition ULTRALEGGERA. A design journey with Marcello Gandini between Italy and Qatar accompanied by a four-day Summer School, designed for a broad and diverse audience, not limited to industry professionals.

The exhibition - born from a collaboration with the Qatar Auto Museum (QAM) and the Virginia Commonwealth School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts) - is curated by Marzia Gandini and Simone Carena, a professor at VCUarts Qatar and the project's creator. Hosted in the Project Room of the Museum from June 20 to August 31, 2025, the exhibition relates Marcello Gandini's drawings and prototypes to the projects of VCUarts Qatar students who have been inspired by his always innovative and contemporary work.

Gandini is universally recognized as one of the boldest innovators in automotive design: legendary dream cars such as the Lamborghini Miura, Marzal, Lancia Stratos, Alfa Romeo Carabo, and Montreal were born from his pencil. Revolutionary projects not only for their aesthetic impact but also for their engineering and technological vision.

ULTRALEGGERA proposes a selection of original drawings, sketches, and models by Gandini, alongside works created by the students involved in the project to explore the theme of movement not only physical but also cultural and creative, opening new perspectives and fostering connections between tradition and innovation.
Before arriving in Turin, the exhibition was presented at the Qatar Auto Museum, where it will remain open until June 2, 2025. The project is conceived as a traveling experience, capable of narrating Gandini's design thinking and its relevance for the new generations of creatives.

From June 18 to 21, 2025, the exhibition will be accompanied by the ULTRALEGGERA Summer School - titled The design of ideas - realized in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Turin, Studio Marcello Gandini, and Pinacoteca Agnelli. The program offers four days of theoretical meetings and practical workshops, aimed at designers, architects, engineers, planners - but also at all those interested in the connections between aesthetics, innovation, and mobility. A unique opportunity to encounter Marcello Gandini's thinking through the voices of teachers, designers, and professionals who have collaborated with him.
