On Saturday 1st October , Silvio Monti 's solo exhibition entitled " Exxistere " will be inaugurated, curated by Patrizia Di Modugno and hosted in the suggestive location of the Masnago Castle in Varese .

The word that gives the title to the exhibition is a free interpretation of the Latin term “ exsistĕre ”. Its etymology refers to being "thrown out", "dropped into reality" and alludes to the condition of the human being who is launched into the mare magnum of life in search of meaning, an ontological theme of all times.

The exhibition offers a broad overview of the artist's last twenty years of production unfolded in a chronological-thematic excursus that reconstructs the themes dear to him: the face, the media, calligraphy, the unconscious and archetypes.

In the first room, faces painted in newspapers meet, in dialogue with the papier-mâché sculptures in revealing the close connection of the subject with mass information: in fact, it has become normal in recent decades to be enveloped and overwhelmed by an uninterrupted flow of news , since the mediums, intended to convey information, are many and often take on more relevance than the message itself. Monti, struck by the pervasive media coverage of every moment of social and private life, intends to expose and challenge these conditioning, together with the dramatic erosion of personal spaces to the advantage of techno addictions capable of seducing with the reassuring traits of progress, of the freedom to expression and entertainment albeit with the atrocious images of the war transformed into a spectacle. The faces in the newspapers, never the same, push us to react to reality as it is proposed to us and to think about the truth beyond appearances.

As the exhibition progresses, the suggestions become more intimate thanks to works carried out on enlarged verb-visual forms and put upside down to the point of losing their complete meaning. It is possible to observe in the background of letters never sent, as on faces and sculptures, fragments of writing proposed as means of exploration of the psyche and of the imagination that connect the artist to the vein of Visual Poetry, a neo-avant-garde artistic spread since the 1960s. . Even in these works little space is given to reason, because the sentences are stripped of their meaning and remain as broken shadows indicating the free flow of the vital forces connected to the unconscious: intuitions, coincidences, déjà vu, dreams ... which need to be reintegrated into the live daily, under pain of losing oneself.
