The suffering expression of the Christus patiens dominates the artistic composition of the work. The head is inclined forward because it is painted, along with the aureole, on a protruding wooden disc, fixed on the vertical axis. At the ends of the cross arms are the Virgin (left) and Saint John the Evangelist (right). At the top, the inscription: EGO SUM REX REGUM POPULUM QUI DE MORTE REDEMI (I am the king of kings and of the people who rose from death). At the bottom is the painter's signature.
