On Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., the Civic Museum of Castelbuono inaugurates the joint exhibition of Saro Brancato and Enzo Sottile, dedicated to a crucial decade of their training and research: the years between 1968 and 1978.

The exhibition, curated by Laura Barreca and Valentina Bruschi, with the scientific consultancy of Angela Sottile, stems from the desire to reinterpret that shared early period - between Castelbuono and Milan - as a watershed not only biographical but also historical, political, and cultural. The project presents the story of a moment in which generational urgencies, social tensions, and the desire for experimentation found, even in a small town in the Sicilian hinterland, a surprising capacity for openness and dialogue with what was happening at a national and international level. When, between 1967 and 1968, Saro Brancato and Enzo Sottile begin working together in Castelbuono, they are little more than teenagers. The shared studio near Piazza Margherita becomes a place of daily confrontation, circulation of images and magazines, musical listening, and political discussion. In that climate crossed in Italy, and in the world, by student protests, dissent, and musical revolution, art is configured as a necessary practice, a space of freedom and at the same time of responsibility. The historic '70s Review - held in Castelbuono and partially reconstructed in the exhibition through works, photographs, and documents - marks the first public moment of that collective experience: an episode that fits into a dialogue between center and periphery in the context of the cultural ferment of those years.

The exhibition presents about thirty significant works from the period 1968-1978, accompanied by documentary materials, photographs, posters, and other archival elements that recreate the atmosphere of that decade, making visible not only the evolution of languages but also the relational and cultural fabric within which they were formed.
