The former church of S. Libera in Ferrara, the current seat of the Lapidarium, was built in the 15th century. Inside are preserved pieces of Ferrara collections, those resulting from reuse and discovery, while in a separate sector there are foreign pieces and a group of 9 amphorae. The exhibition structure, in addition to enhancing the artistic qualities of the figured pieces, favors the understanding of the collecting story and highlights the historical documentary value of the inscriptions. In fact, in the exhibition itinerary the original collection nuclei have been recomposed, which bring us back to figures of eminent personalities such as Rinaldo D'Este, Duke of Modena, to scholars and antiquarian scholars such as Girolamo Baruffaldi and Giuseppe Antenore Scalabrini or to collectors such as Cardinal Gian Maria Riminaldi, while the excavation finds and re-uses have been arranged according to a topographical criterion, which highlights the peculiarities of the Roman population of the Ferrara area.
