The show

“Anna Chromy 1940-2021. Drawings Sculptures Art prints Documentations "which, organized by the" Ugo Guidi 2 "Museum, will be held in Massa with inauguration on 11 November at 5.00 pm, also open on 12 and 13 from 4 to 7 pm (free admission) . In attaching the invitation and more, I underline both the fact that the exhibition pays homage to the internationally known and appreciated sculptor and painter who died in 2021 who worked for years in the entire Apuan-Versilian area (especially in Pietrasanta, where she had a Studio), and that the space of the Museum will host some sculptures, unpublished graphic studies and extensive documents, including photographic ones, of his production, as well as a group of very rare prints depicting paintings, drawings and bronzes. There will be, for viewing and reading, leaflets, catalogs and more related to what I am, like others, over time. I just have to propose just a few lines of what I wrote in 2015: "A few days ago I was reflecting on the activity of Anna Chromy, the undisputed protagonist - painter and sculptress - who for years has had a studio in Pietrasanta, a city that has become famous both for the stay of Michelangelo Buonarroti at the beginning of the sixteenth century, both for the foundries and for the artistic marble workshops, for the past and present presences of an infinite number of creatives from every continent.

I was thinking of his ability to create, that is to say of the merit he possesses by making the soul "vibrate" with that now well-known "Cloak of Consciousness", and with other no less interesting works. He pointed out - it is fair to say - the Socratic "know yourself" overcoming (but never had!) Self-centeredness, dominating the forms of nature, shaping them in such a way as to give them life and making them become "Works of Art" . Anna Chromy is generous in the sense that the reader / observer of what she does can easily occupy her vital space. She is a complete artist who, working with assiduous seriousness, has opened, as they say, our gates, or the doors that sometimes separate us from something obscure: her sculptures, in fact, like the paintings and drawings, clarify today's urgent need, for many, to know the "true truth" (mine is a pun, but punctual) by focusing attention on its own "conscience / knowledge".

Saying about her, however, has the meaning of highlighting a commitment that is aligned, inevitably and by one's own choice, with the so-called moral / social, since - quoting her again, but without peremptorily entering into the merits - perhaps her most famous sculpture in the world, the "Cloak of Consciousness", if on the one hand it proposes a rediscovered conscience, that is, peaceful, on the other it can be interpreted both as the urgent need to preserve Culture and Art at all costs for the protection of Man, and as a reflection / thought on the passing of time represented by the folds of the cloak. ”All of this has the free patronage of the Ugo Guidi Museum in Forte dei Marmi, and the Gierut artistic-documentary Archive Committee set up in 2006 in memory of Marta Gierut.
