The itinerary to discover the artistic and architectural beauties of Galliate starts from its castle, one of the most important monuments in the Novara area for its architectural beauty and the grandeur and unity of its layout. There are numerous historical events linked to the castle and the legendary and fantastic narratives it has evoked, creating around itself an aura of charm and mystery. The castle was built by the will of Galeazzo Maria Sforza from 1476 on the foundations of a previous Visconti fortress and was designed by the military architects Ambrogio Ferrari and Danesio Mainerio. After the duke's death, the construction works stopped and were only resumed in 1496 by Ludovico il Moro, who once again used Ferrari to turn the fortress into a comfortable residence for the ducal hunts.
