On Saturday 18 November at 5pm , at the G. Fattori Civic Museum , the curtain rises on the Raffaello Gambogi exhibition. Art as revelation . The exhibition, promoted by the Municipality of Livorno with the contribution of the Livorno Foundation , is designed and set up by the Cooperativa Itinera , in collaboration with the Galleria 800/900 ARTSTUDIO Livorno/Lucca and curated by the art historian Giovanna Bacci di Capaci .

Second phase of a project born in 2022 and carried out in the city of Volterra in the year of its election as Capital of Tuscan Culture, the exhibition tells the story of the Livorno painter Raffaello Gambogi (1874-1943) . 80 years after his death and almost 150 years after his birth, the investigation today takes place along the double track of his artistic and human story . Emotional and empathetic painter, hypersensitive and restless man - as he is defined by the curator in the exhibition catalog - it is interesting to return to reflect on a character who is still little known in the city's artistic panorama.

There are two focuses included in the exhibition that delve deeper and explain the theme. On the one hand, the presentation of a group of works by Elin Danielson , the painter born in Finland and who came to Italy to study drawing, who shared her private and professional life with Gambogi, starting a continuous and mutual artistic contamination that would last until Gambogi's death. she; on the other, that of art as a form of treatment , the common thread in the personal history of the painter, who was admitted to a mental hospital several times for mental illnesses. The study of the medical records drawn up in the former Frenocomio of San Girolamo di Volterra explain some ethnographic scenarios present in the paintings and extend the research beyond Gambogi himself, following the link between human characteristics and the artistic world, between the approach to art as a form of treatment and artistic expression as a "revelation" of one's suffering.
