From 14 April to 14 June 2026
The Emilio Scanavino Foundation, in collaboration with the Artistic Center Alik Cavaliere and Prometeogallery, presents in Milan, on the occasion of Milan Art Week 2026, the restaging of Homage to Latin America (1971), the monumental work by Alik Cavaliere and Emilio Scanavino.
Originally conceived for the XI São Paulo Biennial and censored before the inauguration, the work returns today as a living and current presence: a non-celebratory civil monument that intertwines historical memory and political responsibility. The large installation, composed of panels with the names of martyrs for the freedom of Latin America and crossed by Cavaliere's organic sculptural elements, stands as a powerful reflection on the violence of history.
The exhibition project goes beyond historical reconstruction, activating a dialogue between generations through the performative intervention of Galindo, among the most incisive voices of international contemporary art. His performative action transforms the body into a space of continuity between the wounds of the past and the tensions of the present, addressing themes such as migrations, inequalities, and political violence.
The exhibition, set up at the Scanavino Foundation in Milan, accompanies the performance with a historical-documentary deepening on the work, proposing a critical reinterpretation of one of the most emblematic cases of censorship in Italian post-war art. Over fifty years after its exclusion, Homage to Latin America asserts itself as a paradigm of an art capable of confronting reality and taking an ethical stance in the contemporary context.
