The yawn of the archivist is the exhibition of the students of LABA, Free Academy of Fine Arts of Brescia, on the occasion of the festival philosophy on the theme of Paideia.
Some have chosen figurines from historical collections, while others have focused on photographic images, but all have developed a reflection on the importance of archives in art: essential as evidence and for the preservation of works, but also a source of exceptional value for new productions, an enormous potential yet to be discovered. Guided by the artist and teacher Simone Santilli, eleven students from the two-year photography class immersed themselves in the archives of the collections of Fondazione Ago, including the Figurine Museum and the funds of artistic and historical photographs, to propose a series of works that will be exhibited at Palazzo Santa Margherita from Friday, September 19 during the festival philosophy dedicated to Paideia, that is, the transmission of knowledge.
The title of the exhibition, The yawn of the archivist, takes inspiration from the image of a late nineteenth-century figurine that inspired the curators ("The reading stork", Lithography Bognard, Paris), and offers eleven perspectives on the collections of Fondazione Ago. The photographic and multimedia projects, with videos and installations, are the result of reflections on the archive as a structure of knowledge, whose classification criteria influence our reading of the materials contained within it, and of transversal investigations among the deposited microstories, in search of messengers who have been lost in the folds of memory, of images that have lost the ability to speak, or even of visions of the future that have been contradicted by History.
