The Donnaregina Foundation for Contemporary Arts - Madre Museum presents the exhibition "Pietro Lista. In backlight" from September 17 to November 17, curated by Renata Caragliano, documenting fifty years of the career of the artist born in Umbria (Castiglione del Lago, 1941), who has been living and working in Campania since 1954.
The exhibition "Pietro Lista. In backlight" indicates and traces, among "signs of light," the work of the histrionic, chameleonic artist with a gargantuan hunger for knowledge. The title of the exhibition has a double meaning: on one hand, it invites the viewer to look "In backlight" at the artist's work, but also and above all to emphasize "the encounter with light" of Pietro Lista, a light emerging from darkness but always maintaining a memory, abstract, artificial, without shadows.
The exhibition project, the result of two years of research carried out in close collaboration with the artist and his archive, is organized into five thematic sections that focus on some aspects of Pietro Lista's work, his way of creating connections and relationships of meaning always new and unpredictable among his works, thus building a very personal creative universe. The exhibition spans over fifty years of Lista's career, presenting both historical works from the second half of the 1960s and recent and often unpublished works. A production characterized by a wide variety of themes and continuous experimentation with techniques and materials ranging from painting, drawing, sculpture, engraving to performance.
Each of the five sections of the exhibition, set up in seven rooms on the second floor of the museum, considers some aspects of Lista's production that recur and coexist with each other at different times. It starts with works and performative actions related to "light," a source that continuously ignites and extinguishes the artist's creative energy and accompanies him almost like a guiding spirit. The journey into Lista's world continues through other recurring themes in his research: the "Clouds," "Mars Black," the "Headless Bodies," and the "recovered" head of the artist. The exhibition also offers a glimpse "In backlight" at the public art works created by Pietro Lista throughout his career, through archival photos and a video.
The exhibition is part of the proposals from the Madre Museum, whose main objective is the creation of an archive of contemporary art from southern Italy, where the works of Italian and international artists can interact in a rich and fruitful comparison of different and complementary experiences, and serve as the basis for further enhancement actions.
