The Museo del Vetro, inaugurated on April 18, 2009, preserves the ancient appearance of the Glassworks and houses multiple types of artifacts that came out of the furnaces in Piegaro. The base of the perimeter wall that encloses part of the last glass present inside at the time of the furnace shutdown in 1968 remains from the ancient melting furnace. At that moment, a large amount of incandescent glass, still present in the melting pot, was made to flow into a chamber located in the basement. Today, the large glass pour, with its intense emerald green color, undoubtedly constitutes the most suggestive sight inside the museum tour, an effective monument to the centuries of productive history that have succeeded in the heart of the village of Piegaro. Among the oldest and most valuable pieces are those belonging to the tableware service of the Misciattelli Family (19th century): glasses, bottles, jugs, and other containers, mostly in transparent glass with engraved and painted decorations. There are numerous wine containers, in particular flasks and demijohns, produced both with the blowing technique and with semi-automatic machines. The building that houses the museum tour is spread over three floors. On the upper floor of the complex, once mainly occupied by offices, several rooms have been created: a conference room, a laboratory used for the numerous activities offered by the museum. In the museum, in fact, conferences, seminars, handicraft courses, educational workshops for children and teenagers are held. Recently, the Municipality purchased a furnace for the artisanal glass processing, a glass fusion furnace, and torches for lampworking. Thanks to the presence of this equipment, it is possible to organize cultural events related to glass such as impromptu glass craftsmanship exhibitions, demonstrations and glassworking workshops, blowing experience courses.
