The Fondazione Memmo presents Soft You, the first institutional exhibition in Rome by the artist Anthea Hamilton. Curated by Alessio Antoniolli, the exhibition is open to the public from Thursday, May 8 to Sunday, November 2, 2025.
Hamilton's practice engages in a dialogue between installation, sculpture, film, and performance to rework visual content belonging to the dominant culture, explored through a subjective lens that suggests a shift in perception. With immersive installations and environments, the artist presents a reality in which gender roles, sexuality, domestic life, and different cultural traditions are explored as fluid and ever-evolving notions.


Soft You, whose title is borrowed from Othello's final monologue in Shakespeare, redefines three cornerstones of Hamilton's research: the Shakespearean protagonist, the city of Rome, and the artist's own practice. Starting from Othello: A Play, the stage performance created in 2024 in collaboration with Delphine Gaborit for the De Singel art center (Antwerp), the exhibition further expands the performative possibilities of Hamilton's sculptural and installation research.
